Although we aren't a certified organic farm we still strive to meet, if not exceed, Organic certification standards. This means only purchasing certified organic and/or OMRI approved inputs, including seeds, soil amendments, and if necessary, fungicide and pesticides. The following resources include some of our favorite suppliers and websites, we often refer back to.

Where we buy from and other resources

High Mowing Organic Seeds

We use High Mowing as our primary source for seeds for 2 main factors: their fantastic germination rates and the fact they only sell 100% certified organic seed. We also love their detailed free seed catalogue for tips and tricks from other farmers.

Dairy Doo Compost

This regional compost company has provided us with multiple kinds of nutrient rich compost for our greenhouse, fields, and vegetable starts. They offer a variety of compost blends and in sizes ranging from cubic foot bags to 2 cubic yard supersacks for the larger growers.

E & R Seeds

This local, Amish-owned business is our main supplier for potting and soil mixes and pots and trays for seed starting. They do not have a website, but you can call and request a catalogue or visit in person at their store in Monroe, IN.

OMRI Approved List

When looking into a new product to use on the farm, we always check with the OMRI list to ensure the individual product meets USDA Organic standards. This website and PDF both have search functions making it quick and easy to ensure we are approved products, such as pesticides or fertilizers.

Seed Savers Exchange

Seed Savers works to preserve rare, heirloom varieties and educate people on the importance of preserving these varieties and teaching them how to harvest and store seeds. Along with their own seed catalog they host a large online community where people can buy and trade seeds from independent growers as well.

Other local growers

When we started back at markets full-time, we deeply relied on the other local growers to help adjust to the current trends and practices.

Some of these growers include:

Shared Legacy Farms

Corinna Bench's podcast has helped us in how we coordinate our online presence and CSA management practices. We also find her farming advice salient due to her farm also being in the Midwest.
